What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine to the side that affects the bones as well as the soft tissue of the body which might result in pain and discomfort. Severe scoliosis might have to be treated surgically however mild scoliosis can be treated with 3 dimensional exercise program.

What is Scolio-Pilates?

 Scolio pilates is a three dimensional exercise program for managing scoliosis (curve of the spine to the side) as taught by scolio pilates founder Karena Thek Lineback.

As a sufferer of scoliosis myself this technique has proven to be the most effective in gaining  better spinal alignment and managing pain in my opinion.

How does it work?

Every curve of the spine is different that’s why scolio-pilates program is tailored to your curve and needs. In general we focus on elongating the spine, deep breathing and finding a neutral and more correct alignment for the spine and then strengthen that alignment using scolio-props such as wedges, scolio-rectangles, balls, bands etc.

I feel like my sessions with Ivona helped me with my scoliosis and my health in general. I feel less pain in my back and I’m glad to have learned different exercises I can help to strengthen myself. Ivona really helped me believe in myself and use work out as a means to release stress. Working with her made me realise that I would want to continue work outs from now on because I can feel the difference it makes in my body. I certainly feel stronger than before. She not only strengthened my muscles but also let me work on my flexibility and I had a lot of fun in the sessions!
 
I was very lucky to have a teacher like Ivona and hopefully we’d be able to work together again.
