1-1 Pilates Lessons in London
” Private Pilates is a great way to focus on your needs and aims with a special attention to your body habits and patterns which are usually not possible in large classes”
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mindful form of exercise that was develop by a German physical trainer and inventor Joseph Pilates. His method was called “contrology”. Contrology” relates to encouraging the use of the mind to control muscles.
Why is Pilates different from other forms of exercise?
There are 2 types of muscles in the body: the superficial muscles and deep stabilising (postural) muscles. Pilates focuses on working the small stabilising muscles (postural) and deep abdominal muscles that are important to stabilise the spine and therefore keeping your spine strong and healthy. Additionally it is a mindful form of exercise. It requires you to be present in the body while exercising therefore developing your interception (how you feel in your own body) as well as proprioception (how you move in space). It emphasises quality (moving well and being in control of the body) rather than quantity (moving mindlessly with no understanding of the purpose of the exercise).
Key pilates principles are:
Centering – Moving from the core muscles (your centre)
Concentration – Being in the present moment to maximise the potential of the exercise
Control – Moving with muscular control
Precision– Focused on correct alignment while moving the body
Breath– Exercise coordinated with a strong breath
Flow– Moving smoothly and gracefully
Why 1:1 Pilates?
Private classes are especially useful if you are just starting out and want to learn the basics of Pilates or if you suffer from injuries or have a certain condition. Sometimes our bad unconscious bodily habits and patterns can aggravate an existing injury or make our condition worse. I pay a special attention to this during your private session.
